MORE INFORMATION:
Zygopetalum mackayi originates from the coastal regions of Brazil and exhibits temperature tolerance. According to the AOS, these plants typically thrive in intermediate temperatures, but can withstand summer heat when properly shaded and watered, and tolerate cooler winter nights when kept drier.
However, exposure to wet and cold conditions is often fatal. Moreover, unsightly leaf spotting, commonly observed in hybrids and species, can usually be attributed to moisture on the leaves at night when temperatures are lower than optimal. Notably, Z. mackayi is particularly susceptible to this spotting issue.
